Early Signs of Diabetes

The early signs or symptoms you get from diabetes are because of high blood glucose or sugar. If the glucose in your body is not controlled or managed properly, this may lead to diabetes.

The early signs of diabetes can be very mild, and you won’t even know that you have one. This case is especially true with type 2 diabetes.

You won’t notice the symptoms until you get problems after a long time because of the disease.

While in type 1 diabetes, the early symptoms can be more severe, and the symptoms usually show quicker than type 2 diabetes.

Early signs of type 1 and type 2 diabetes

Some symptoms can be experienced with people who have type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Here are some of the symptoms that you should be aware of:

  • Getting hungry and low fatigue When you eat, your body converts the food you eat into glucose, and over time cells stop responding to the insulin that pumps out of the pancreas, and your body needs insulin to take in glucose. If your body resists the insulin, your body makes the glucose can’t get into them that causes you to feel hungrier and have low fatigue.
  • Peeing more often and getting thirstier – it’s normal for a person to pee 6-8 times a day in a 24 hour period, but people with diabetes have to deal with more. Your body reabsorbs the glucose as it passes through your kidneys, but when diabetes pushes your blood sugar or glucose up, your kidneys may not be able to bring it back in. This causes your body to make more urine than it usually does because of peeing too much, and you get thirstier than usual too.
  • Having dry mouth and itchy skin When your body is creating too much fluid for you to urinate, there’s less moisture that your body is receiving. You tend to feel dry, and your skin starts to feel itchy because there is not too much moisture.
  • Blurry vision Changes in the fluid levels of your body can make the lenses in your eyes swell up that they start to change shape and can’t focus

Early symptoms of type 1 diabetes

The early signs in type 1 diabetes are more noticeable and can be more severe than the symptoms of type 2 diabetes. Here are some symptoms that you should be aware of:

  • Weight loss – if your body can’t get enough energy from the food you eat. Instead of storing fat and energy, your body starts to burn it. This will be the cause of your weight loss. You will start losing weight even if you don’t plan to. And also, You should eat food that is high in trans fatty acids like fried foods, margarine, meat, and dairy but be careful taking these foods; you should know how to balance eating these foods.
  • Nausea and Vomiting – When your body resorts to burning fat, it makes ketones. The fat in your body can build up in your blood to dangerous levels. Ketones make you feel sick to your stomach, which leads to nausea and Vomiting.

Early symptoms of type 2 diabetes

The symptoms in type 2 diabetes don’t show up until your glucose has been high for a long time. Here are some symptoms that you should be aware of:

  • Yeast infections – Both men and women who have type 2 diabetes, can get these. Yeast feeds on glucose so having plenty around makes it thrive. Infections can grow in the parts of your body, that is, the warm and moist fold of skin, between fingers, toes, under breasts, and in or around sex organs.
  • Pain or numbness in your feet or legs – When your nerves get damaged, pain and numbness can be the result of it.
  • Slow healing cuts or sores – Over time, high blood sugar affect your blood flow and cause nerve damage that makes it hard for your body to heal wounds.
